Developing case finding algorithms for the timely detection of dementia Lead Investigator: David Llewellyn Institution : University of Exeter Medical School E-Mail : david.llewellyn@exeter.ac.uk Proposal ID : 588 Proposal Description: Few comparative diagnostic test accuracy studies of brief cognitive assessments such as the MMSE have been conducted, hampering our ability to make recommendations about which ones should be used clinically to detect dementia. No existing test is perfectly accurate, and we suspect that taking into account other patient characteristics can enhance the accuracy of these measures and reduce the amount of misclassification. Expected outcomes: 1) Comparative diagnostic test accuracy study of brief cognitive assessments incorporated in the NACC. 2) Derive formula to predict the probability of dementia before and after cognitive assessment, with and without informant report.
